Entrepreneurial Motivation Training For DFP Fellows

Introduction:

Before attending this Module Naveen and Chinnababu has created an eagerness and curiosity in me. The session started with a story of king. With a unique dream,

later all fellows were shifted in to library and we got involved in Treasure hunting Game it was quite interesting and mind blowing to us, then all fellows presented their hunting game, my team got first prize.

In second session we all were involved in the test of creative imagination, by seeing picture for 30secands and based on this we build our own story. Later we wrote on two page wise up of who am I? Than in the Second day was so interesting and we enjoyed a lot by playing ring game. But later we all realized about our actual behavior and hidden potential by critical and constracite feed back by Rita Sengupta.

She used a technique of data analysis to give and understand the person who is she/he? What is she/he? Showing the data she explained every ones later on behavior their actual characteristics. Later on she gave us a motivational profile Questionnaire. She explained by giving an example and stories.

Next day she analysed our story writing by introducing a different language called AI,G+,G-,Fe+,Fe-,N,H,Ach,Bp and Bw.This is one core thing of this three day’s module. If we are able to find out the AI in our story and who am I and in the drama it’s nothing but I am on the right track. After post lunch we all were involved in the tower building game this is too challenging and mind blowing to me. This game made me to realize my mistakes and made us to change and accept others thought and ideas, through this I learnt that

v  I should not set a unrealistic goal.

v  I should listen carefully to other views

v  I should be using my own internal sources

v  I should not be dependent on others view it’s a sign of my handicapped

Through ring game I came to know about myself that I should do a people oriented or something for the sake of other. I should do my own interest and passion. These are all games and activities were analysed by the following strategy or atributs, such as power motivation, Afiliative motivation, achievement motivation, and extention motivation. She made clear about our goal and activities. She gave an opportunity to do one skit, based on the AI.My team has done it very effectively where as other teams has not much effective. We are very clear about the concept whatever she taught us in the class.

Lastly she come up with a business game, this game has a number of terms and conditions with a time limit. This is totally based on our learning of the two day activities. She summarized it in simple and common language by comparing to AI standards.

Thus all fellows were very happy with this module and instruction I am sure that 8o % of the fellow were able to set the goal and action plan. This module will help us in each and every moment to take firm decision and success take firm help.

Rita sengatpna told that what I am today is because of yesterday, what I will be tomorrow is because of today, this really opened my valuable and unsellable internal resources she showed me a right path at the right time to take right direction.

A Small writeup on Logical Framework Analysis

Introduction:

The name of Module itself it made to think logically. It is only one crucial mode to prepare project proposal and approval by the donor/founder. It is prepared by the grand seeker and later sends to all staff, beneficiaries, resource persons and stockholders. It is seems like table but it contents very specific and clear information regarding the project. . It helps to analyze the existing situation during activity preparation and establishes a logical hierarchy for particular issue.

Logical Framework Analysis is very essential tool to planning, managing, evaluation and monitoring. But it never ends itself.Lagical Framework analysis is supports to the grant seeker to focus on the goal and purpose of the project. It increases the accountability, efficiency and loyalty of the organization towards success of the project.

Module Description:

The Module is too difficult to understand and digest easily although the instructor has explained it in simple and systematic way which is understandable by all fellows. He narrated the module by giving live examples and illustrations.Initianly he started explaining the meaning of LFA According Department for International Development (DFID) the Logical Framework as "a tool to help designers of projects think logically about

What the project is trying to achieve (the purpose),

What things the project needs to do to bring that about (the outputs) and

What needs to be done to produce these outputs (the activities)? The three day module has want like more interaction, desiccation, and activities. That made us to understand the actual concept of LFA. We prepared one LFA at the end of module. The log frame isn't intended to show every detail of the project, or to limit the scope of the project. It is simply a convenient, logical summary of the key factors of the project.

Key points of the Module:

  • Define the problem
  • Preparation of the Problem tree
  • Converting in to objective tree
  • Objectively verifiable indicators
  • Means of verification
  • Preparation of the project handy summary for stockholders

What I Learned:

Significant learning of module is that made us to think constructively and logically of the project. I come to know that how difficult it is to get proposal/grant by the donor /founder. I understood that selection of the project and identifying the goal, purpose, out come and activities are led to the success. It enhance the uniformity, tranforancy, and accountability.LFA is reduces the conflict and uncertainty of the organigation.now a day’s (present scenario)all social development organizations/civil society organizations are preferring to the LFA Because it have a more advantages rather than disadvantages and  every one need to learn logical framework analysis.

Advocacy Module 05/03/09

Resource Person:Smt.Usharani and Vanishree.

Really I did not know, what is the Advocacy? Smt. Usharani is a resource person for this module. She has completed her MA and M Phil in Rural Development. Right now, she is working in the KHPT (Karnataka health promotion Trust) organization. She begins the session with the introduction of fellows. In the beginning she told about the content of her presentation and who has inspired to take this stuff. Generally Advocacy is defined as the process of people participating in decision making process which affect their lives. Advocacy is putting a problem on the agenda, providing a solution to that problem and building support for acting on both the problem and solution.

Strategies used: For advocacy it can include lobbying, social marketing information, education and community organizing or many more other tactics.

Basic elements of Advocacy:

1)     Coalitions 2) Objectives 3) Data 4) Fund raising 5) Audience 6) Presentations7) Evaluation.

Some of the steps involved in the Advocacy are:

· Selecting Advocacy Objectives

· Identifying Advocacy Audience

· Developing & Delivering Advocacy Messages

· Making Perusable Presentations

· Fund Raising

· Evaluating the Advocacy Efforts

· These processes may be viewed as fluid as they occur simultaneously.

These things were discussed in detail with some case study and examples which made me more curious about Advocacy. Next the Q-A session started, many fellows asked questions, some of them are, what is the scope of Advocacy? How it will help entrepreneurs? Is it a nonprofit Advocacy or not? This was followed by the Group Activity in which we were given a topic & asked to write the steps involved in that. We got “VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN” as the topic. According to our group members opinion we collected all the steps and one among us has presented. Than Usharani has analyzed.

Second session was taken by Vanishree has explained about her experiences. In the beginning when she wanted to work for positive people her parents, relatives and friends have also convinced her not to go for that. But she has taken firm decision to do work for them and joined an organization called Society for Public Advocacy Development (SPAD). She has explained about her live examples where she has got slap on her face by community woman because of that her husband has involved in sex with other woman.

In the afternoon we had session by Dr.Gopal Dabade, who is President of Drug Action Forum-Karnataka, Convener for All India Drug Action Network (AIDAN) and He is also Treasurer of Jagruti. He has given example of IBFAN (International Baby Food Action Network) has 200 groups in more than 100 countries for Advocacy. He has also told that People’s Health Movement (PHM) as a best example of Advocacy. Ha has given many examples and asked us to visit websites relating to Health as examples of Advocacy. Such as www.jagruti.org,http:www.aidanindia.wordpress.com,www.ibfan.org,http://phm-india.org,www.phmovement.org,http://www.righttofoodindia.org..................etc

Right weapon for the right people at right time on right Place

This is an important and significant 22ndact enacted in 2005.the Right to Information Act-2005 was enacted on 12th October. It contains 28 pages and 22 articles. Except for people in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, everybody can access information according to this act in India. This is only one way to get information easily by applying RTI.Anybody can access information under the control of public authorities in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of public authorizes.

In this act we see some important articles like Suo-Muto 4(1) (b), which permits us to get firsthand/basic information, including 17 points under the law regarding each public agency. Section 6(1) is great weapon for retrieving specific information from the public authority by filing RTI through records, documents, memos, e-mail, opinions, advice, press realeases, circulars, reports and electronic formats. Important concepts like “information”, “public authority” and Records. We can compliant under section 18th (1).

When writing an application to Suo-motu, specific information and plays vital role in the RTI.Our application should be very specific and clear about the applicant. The constitution of a central information commission and state information commission now expedient to provide for certain information to citizens who desire it. Case studies help us to understand easily rather than reading theory. By filing RTI to public authority we come to know the reality of RTI.The successful stories increase our confidence in the future.

Lastly, the three day module on RTI enriched my knowledge. It was a nice experience to do a case study, recap and read successful stories with great file concerning background of RTI.The least I can say is that the street play in the public is showed me it is challenging to convince people and sensitize them regarding Right to Information. Being a social entrepreneur, this is the first filing in my career, so it is good to understand this act.  Click here

a

Naganoor Village study

First day we have visited to Gram chetan, it was very nice.It fully covered by trees. Mr. Deepak Kshira Sagar introduced about Gram chetan & he has shared his experience about significant of people participation. Building participatory approch among the people is very important. on one can’t build within a day/over night. Initially they have faced more problems to work with people. While selecting the people they didn’t have any restriction. he told that With support of community they built check dam at Harogere. He shared live examples with us.

Conducted PRA At Kamplikoppa:

We have visited to Kappalikoppa to conduct PRA. The community people welcomed us applying Kumkum & turmeric powder. We have divide in 5 groups. Each team was going to do different activity such as Resource map, Seasonality Map for income & migration, Venn diagram, FGD on milk production. Matrix rank for compose. We conducted Time line on sanitation. Then we can understand PRA by practically. After that I moved to Kmapli Koppa along with my co-fellows. We had practical experience of the PRA. I have been in Seasonality mapping. We did the seasonality map for income & migration. There was very less migration because they depend on irrigation land. & they will get job at VRL it is very near to Villagers.

After coming back from village, we have enjoyed by dancing, singing & making jokes with our Director Naveen Jha, Chinnababu & all co-fellows.

Village Study at Naganoor:

The Naganur village comes under Khalgatigi Taluk, Shurshetti Koppa Panchyath of Dharwad district. It is 25 km away from Hubli city. Only road transportation available for this village. Our team members and me visited this village on 11th and 12th of Feb 2009.

History of the village:

Naganur’ means village of snakes. We got different stories from the people regarding village history. One of the elders said that the village was called Laxmipura after that it changed into Yalghatigi Nagnur and Nagnur. Other sources said that some body found Nagalinga in the village long back ago that is why villagers named it as a Naganur.

Transect Walk

On 11th Feb 2009 in the morning we went to Naganur by walk it was 2km from Grama chetan, road was not good. On the way we saw ground nuts, cotton, and sugarcane & sunflower crops in field. We met and asked some youths & old mens about the village.few of them helped us for transect walk. We observed that houses are built very systematically on road side by side. In the entrance of the village there were new houses which is alloted by Govt. Roads are very big. Majority of the houses were Kachha in the village

When we entered into the village, people were busy with their works. They were waiting for bus at Basavanna temple, some people were going to the field, and others are having tea at hotel & children were playing in front of community hall. There are 5 temples in the village; Basavan Temple, Devamamman Temple, Hanuman Temple & Durgamman temple,Dyamavva Temple. we found some of the major institition in villege such as primary school, Anganwadi, community hall, Milk Dairy, Panchayath office, and Durga.

Village was clean. Everyone has drawn rangoli in front of their houses. It shows their indigenous knowledge, local customs & practices. Rapport building was main challenge for us. As soon as we entered the village we initiated rapport building.

When we met people our team members were saying “ Namskara “ to villagers. We clearly explained them reason for coming to their village. Afternoon we visited field we collected some information regarding soil and crops.

It was the late evening when we started our activities because people still returning from the fields. Later we gathered the people for social mapping.

Focus Group Discussion

We conducted focus discussion group in the evening. We have collected information about health & sanitation. But, gathering pople is very difficult. When we called people no one came because they were busy with their work & they neglected us. So we have gone to apply kunkuma door to door & someone we met on road we applied them. We told them to gather round in public place. After gathering Mrs.Jayashree villagers sang welcome song. Later we discussed.

Social Map

A social map has helped us to understand about Nagnur village. This map is drawn by village people and which shows the social structures and institutions found in an area. It also helped us to learn who is living where & about where is temples, school, Community hall, Anganwadi & other offices.

Time Line

Our team has decided to draw the time line map. Mainly our targeted group was women and we called them traditional way putting KUNKUM on their forehead. And we did time line comparative study between situations in 1970 periods and now. Before 1970 the cholera, pelage & T.B like that disease was there. But, now AIDS, Cancer & Chicken gunny. Everyone believed on Ayurvedic treatment. Before 1970 they didn’t have hospital facility, Toilets, Pure water facility, Transport facility & Schools. Now they have school so every child getting literacy, they are growing other crops like suppota trees & mango trees, everything has changed the ladies didn’t not know about bank but now they can easily do bank transaction. Like that there village has changed.

Matrix Ranking

we conducted matrix ranking on compost. by this we understood diffrent types of compost. which compost they will use more & which is the good.

Resource Mapping

The Resource map has helped us to learn about community & its resource base. To learn the villagers perception of what natural resource are found in the community and how they are using. We started in the next day morning after gathering people we have introduced about resource map we have given rangoli powder to draw. We also took care about involving people. They have drawn water source, different type of soils, Hills, roads, lake, & grazing land.

Secondary Data collection

For collecting secondary data we have visited Anganwadi, Panchayt, Milk Dairy, and Mahasangha & Village Accountant. In that village 1390 population are living 686 male & 704 are female. The voters are 891. It has 360 families. Only one house is Pakka remaining all are kachha house. Big formers are 5, Medium formers are 132 & small formers are 172. The total land is 1982.2 Hectors.

Observation

· Female population is very high.

· Mentally challenged children.

· Village was clean.

Learning

1. Rapport building with villagers.

2. Challenge faced

· Gathering people.

· Misconception from us.

Summary

We had village study. we conducted PRA in Nagnur village of Kalgatgi Talku Dharawad dist. This exercise helped in understanding village situation, developing the rapport with the villagers, their overall developmental & if you want implement any project involvement of people is very important.
